  • Make sure that the packaging is empty of product residue or, at least, that there is not any liquid content left. There is no need to rinse the packaging; just wipe off any residue with a tissue.
  • Do not remove any stickers from the packaging, as these will help to identify and properly sort the packaging.
  • Keep the outer carton packaging containing the product and bring it together with your empty packaging.
  • Remember that you will need to collect 4 empty packages from partner brands to receive the gift voucher.

An integrated end-of-life management system for empty product packaging, by type of material, which enables their utilisation as part of the circular economy, supporting at the same time the operation of the Collective System for Alternative Management – Recycling.

alternatetext

  • In the context of Extended Producer Responsibility, the partner brands support the operation of the Collective System for Alternative Management – RECYCLING (CSAM – RECYCLING) for collectable packaging waste with impurities of less than 5%, which leads to a recycling rate of over 95%, and significant energy savings during their management at Material Sorting and Recycling Centers (MSRCs) –up to 30 kWh per ton of packaging waste.
  • Informing consumers and raising awareness on recycling and circular economy.
  • All empty packaging accepted by the sorting system is 100% recovered through the proposed end uses, and landfilling is completely avoided, thus leading to a zero-waste economy.
  • Environmental benefits:
    • For every kilogram of plastic packaging that is recycled, and specifically:
      • For PET packaging (e.g. cream bottles, shampoo caps), 80 kg of CO2 is saved.
      • For PP packaging (e.g. plastic tubes), 28 kg of CO2 is saved.
      • For PE packaging (e.g. shampoo plastic tubes, jar lids), 26 kg of CO2 is saved.
      • Another important benefit of recycling plastics is water saving, which amounts to 32 litres per kg of PP & PE packaging and 126 litres per kg of packaging.
    • For every kilogram of glass packaging (e.g. cream bottles, nail polishes, etc.) that is recycled, 40 kg of CO2 and 29 litres of water are saved.
    • For every kilogram of paper packaging that is recycled, 6 kg of CO2 and 80 litres of water are saved.
    • For every kilogram of metal packaging (e.g. pencils, tubes) that is recycled, and in particular for aluminium and stainless steel,70 kg and 1.55 kg of CO2 are saved respectively.
    • Packaging utilised through alternative uses produces fuel of high calorific value (over 20 MJ/kg), thus saving virgin, non-renewable resources.

The empty product packaging accepted by the system will be utilised in one of the following 3 ways (utilisation streams):

1.Upcycling: Some of the empty packages will be transformed into new products, thus extending their lifespan and giving them a second life.
2. Recycling: Recyclable empty packages will be brought to authorised Material Sorting and Recycling Centers (MSRCs), partners of the Hellenic Recovery Recycling Corporation (HERRCO) that manages blue recycling bins, in order to be further processed and then taken to recycling plants for the raw materials to be recovered and reused in applications corresponding to their first use.
3. Production of alternative fuels for energy recovery: Non-recyclable packages will be utilised to produce alternative fuels, suitable for use in industrial facilities as an alternative source of energy, thus avoiding the use of fossil fuels.

  • Points-of-sale participating in the pilot program: 4 flagship Hondos Center stores: Glyfada, Omonoia and Piraeus (Tsamadou) and Apollonia Politia (Thessaloniki).
  • The Beauty Advisor scans the barcode on the empty packaging of the products returned by the consumer, and the e-platform indicates the bin in which the empty packaging must be placed depending on its material.
  • At the participating points-of-sale, there will be 4 main bins named as follows: a) Glass Packaging (blue bin), b) Recyclable Plastic Packaging (red bin), c) Alternative Uses & Metal Packaging (purple bin), and d) Paper Packaging (yellow bin).
  • When the bins are full, the different packaging streams will be transported to W.A.T.T. S.A. (SOCIÉTÉ ANONYME OF WASTE APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES & TRANSPORT), a key partner of HERRCO (HELLENIC RECOVERY RECYCLING CORPORATION) that manages blue recycling bins, where the materials collected will be inspected and verified before they are sent to the corresponding utilisation stream, i.e.: a) Upcycling, b) Recycling and c) Production of alternative fuels for energy recovery – Refuse-derived Fuel (RDF).
